The Gateway to Rest, Relax and Restore: The Power of Savasana

In the lineage of our practice, we recognize the Corpse Pose (Savasana) as the most important asana of all. We turn our focus to this practice that often feels the simplest, yet remains the most profound. It is the essential final seal of our physical work. Without it, the benefits of our session remain scattered; with it, they become transformative.

The Art of “Conscious” Relaxation

The true intention of Savasana is not sleep, but conscious relaxation. In our Golden Lotus Hatha Yoga practice, we value the deliberate pauses between each asana. We know that in those moments of stillness, the life-force (prana) is invited to enter into and ascend the spine, moving through the central channel (sushumna).

The Corpse Pose (Savasana) is the fertile ground where the seeds of effort sown during the asana practice finally take root. It is not merely a rest; it is the integration phase where the nervous system recalibrates, the muscles release their subtle tension, and the energy channels are purified and balanced, leading to profound physical, mental, and spiritual assimilation.

The Corpse Pose acts as the ultimate pause. It gathers the energies awakened throughout the entire class by the poses, the focused breath, and the released tension, and sends that collective energy into the spine to ascend to the spiritual eye. It is in this state of deep, alert surrender that we move beyond the physical body and touch the stillness of the soul. This profound, deliberate release allows the subconscious mind to let go of deep-seated stress patterns, making space for inner wisdom and peace to surface.

The Power of Visualization: The Kutastha

To deepen this experience, visualization is vital. As you lie in stillness, consciously release all effort, beginning with the toes and moving slowly up to the crown. Once the body is completely still, visualize the energy being drawn from your limbs and organs, flowing like a river of light into the spinal column. See this light rising upward, bathing the brain and settling at the point between the eyebrows: the Kutastha, or spiritual eye.

This mental focus acts as a magnet, drawing your awareness away from outward distractions and toward inward realization. Hold this point of light with unwavering attention. By consciously focusing on this center of spiritual perception, you align your awareness with the ever-present peace and joy of the soul.

Let us affirm:

“I am the prince of perpetual peace, playing in a drama of sad and happy dreams on the stage of experience.”
